Julia Cruze Duncan

Julia Cruze Duncan, (96) passed away on Saturday, February 11, 2024. She was born May 9, 1927 in Hamblen County, Tennessee and grew up in White Pine, Noeton and Morristown. She attended Rose School and graduated from Morristown High School. She and her parents were active members of First Baptist Church Morristown, where her father was a deacon and her mother was a Sunday School teacher. Although she had no children of her own, she spent 30 years teaching 2nd Grade Sunday School at Central Baptist Church, Fountain City in Knoxville, Tn. Julia was a first-generation graduate from the University of Tennessee Knoxville. She was married to her first husband, Jack Moore, from 1950-1981, until his passing. She worked for Southern Railway and then was hired by the University of Tennessee Bursar’s office. Upon her marriage in 1983 to Marshall Duncan, she was called to the mission field to join her husband in ministry in Kericho, Kenya, serving with the Foreign Mission Board (Now the IMB) of the Southern Baptist Convention. They joyfully served the people of Kenya until 1990. After retirement, she and Marshall spent the next 13 years serving churches in Alaska and Hawaii. Julia’s love for the Lord and for sharing the Gospel of Christ was an inspiration to her family and friends. She also loved flowers, and enjoyed working in her beautiful flower garden. She and Marshall loved their home in Moss Creek. Julia was preceded in death by her parents, Corum Dewey (C.D.) Cruze and Alice Bessie Cruze (Isenberg), her brother, William Clifford (Billy) Cruze, her first husband, Jack Moore (married 1950 until his death in 1981) and her second husband, Marshall Duncan (married 1983 to his death in 2020). Julia is survived by her two brothers, Kevin and Lynn Cruze and her two step-sons, Marshall Alan Duncan (Andrea) and Kenneth Duncan (Cindy). She is also survived by four grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren: Betsy Barr (Phillip): Nathaniel & John-Alan; Beth-Anice (Jared): Callie, Scott & Deacon; Christine Williams (David): Carter & Duncan; Curt Duncan (Caroline): Arden, Hollis, Solomon & Jane. Included would be her special friend, Ann Morris, and her friends in the Sunday School class at Wallace Memorial Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at Wallace Memorial Baptist Church, 701 Merchant Drive, Knoxville, TN, 37912 on Sunday, February 18, 2024 at 1:00 PM. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM, with Rev. Kent Williams officiating. The graveside service will be at 11:00 AM Monday, February 19, 2024, at Jarnigan Cemetery in Morristown, TN.
