Mrs. Kane Watson McAfee

Kane Watson McAfee, born March 15, 1940 in Knoxville, to the late Harry M. and Charlotte Stair Watson, went to be in the presence of her Savior early Wednesday morning, December 13th with her family surrounding her. Kane fought a long and hard battle against cancer and FTD. She enjoyed a beautiful and joyful month in hospice care at home as family and friends dropped in and gathered around. Kane was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was married to her husband, Joe Mont, for over 57 years. Serving her family was her greatest joy. Joe Mont and their three daughters, Janet (Doug Belden), Mary Kane (David Rhodes) and Rebecca (David Partain) treasure their memories with Kane. Her twelve grandchildren, Laura, Corey and Sam Belden, Johnny (Holly), Abbye, Chloe, Mary Elise, Adam and Hallie Rhodes, Sarah, Amy and Luke Partain are grateful for the love and care of their grandmother. Kane also treasured the gift of her sister Becky (Bruce Treadway) of Atlanta, Georgia and her brother Mitchell Watson (Kate) of West Palm Beach, Florida. She loved all her nieces, nephews, and precious extended family. In addition to her family, she was blessed to have the best of friends who loved her with gifts of flowers, meals, loving visits, encouragement on her hardest days, and praying with and for her. Kane graduated from West High School and enjoyed a short teaching stint before becoming a mother. While raising her family, she enjoyed being a member of the Junior League of Knoxville, and volunteering with several organizations including the Serenity Shelter, The Florence Crittenton Home and the Dogwood Arts Festival. Most important to her, and the legacy she leaves, is her unwavering faith in Jesus Christ. She grew up in First Presbyterian Church and later served as a Sunday school teacher at West Hills Presbyterian Church. She loved and studied God’s Word and enjoyed leading others in understanding scripture. She went on two mission trips in her lifetime: to Bonaire with a group from First Presbyterian and to Cuba with a team from West Hills Presbyterian. She served as chairwoman to bring the “Joni” (Eareckson Tada) film to Knoxville in the 1980’s and served for years on the “Christian Women’s Fellowship Retreat” committee coordinating a weekend retreat for women in Knoxville and surrounding areas. She loved volunteering at the Hope Resource Center and in her later years, she volunteered at an after school program called “The Good News Club” sharing the gospel. Her personal testimony of salvation in Christ was precious to her and what she clung to throughout her life. Following a private graveside service at Highland Memorial Cemetery, a Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday December 16th at First Presbyterian Church with Reverend Dr. William C. Pender, Reverend John E. McKenzie, and Reverend Doug White officiating. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. Online condolences may be made at www.rosemortuary.com.
