Kathryn Odom Howard

Dearest Kathryn Odom Howard, at 100 years of age, passed away peacefully in her sleep with family by her side at Sterling Estates in Marietta, GA on April 11, 2025. She was preceded in death by husband Clyde H. Odom and husband Hugh E. Howard; parents George A. Johnson and Bessie S. Johnson; siblings, brother Glenn S. Johnson (Mary), sisters Veda J. Kidd (Scottie), Evelyn J. Warwick (M. D.), Bernice J. Alexander (Leo), and Reba J. Abbott (Glen); nephew Scottie R. Kidd, nieces Deidre W. Thompson, Linda I. Layman, and Diane K. O’Brien; great nephew Mark A. Kidd and great niece Jeanne K. Clark. She is survived by several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great’s, and great great great’s whom she was very devoted to. She and Clyde were employed at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Oak Ridge for several years. Clyde was an engineer in the engineering department, and she was a technical secretary to the directors of analytical chemistry. The Oakridge Lab is also known as Katy’s Kitchen, her historical namesake. Hugh E. Howard was a retired, army, lieutenant colonel. She enjoyed many hobbies, including golf, bridge, ballroom dancing, UT football, UT basketball, and travel. She was a past member of Oak Ridge Country Club, Dean Hill Country Club, and Green Meadows Country Club. She was Chairman of the DHCC Babe Zaharias Tournament benefiting cancer research, Chairman of Dean Hill Women’s Golf Association, Chairman of Knox Area Golf Association, and served on the Board of Tennessee State Golden Girls Golf Association. She was also a member of several bridge and dance clubs. She served as President of Wimbledon I subdivision, Hellen Post Community Association, a member of Ossoli Circle Club, and The Red Hat Society. The family will receive friends at Rose Funeral & Cremation - Mann 6200 Kingston Pike on Tuesday, April 15th from 12:00pm - 1:30pm with a funeral service to follow. Family and friends will then gather at 3:00pm for a graveside service at Highland Memorial Cemetery in the Garden of the Good Shepherd.
