Lark Root Altom

Lark Root Altom went running into the loving arms of Jesus, surrounded by family on August 3, 2024. Lark was born to John Carlton Root and Delta Bates Root on November 18, 1956, in the Philippines. She studied art at Randolph Macon Women's College before transferring to the University of Tennessee where she graduated with a degree in fine art. She met and married George Altom, the love of her life for 46 years and they spent nearly half a century traveling the globe together enjoying hiking, site-seeing, and the Altom favorite - food tourism. Over the course of her life, she held many positions, wife, mother, aunt, friend, and teacher. However, she considered her most important role to be grandmother to her precious grandchildren - Millie, Sam, and Rose. Lark was passionate about sharing the love of our Lord with others. In everything she did, she did with a Christ-like manner. Her devotion to God was felt by all ages as she worked with children at church and Bible Study Fellowship. She faithfully attended Wallace Memorial Baptist Church and before that Central Baptist Fountain City. Now that Lark has passed into the arms of our Lord, her physical life on earth is over but it is the beginning of an eternal and beautiful journey for her. She was preceded in death by her mother and father John Carlton Root and Delta Bates Root, and her brother-in-law Ken Altom, Jr. She is survived by her husband of 46 years and best friend for over 50 years George Altom. Her children: Ben Altom and his wife Jenn; Paige Triplett and her husband Drew. Grandchildren: Millie, Sam, and Rose Lark. Sister-in-law: Pam Altom. Nephews and niece: Eric Altom (Kelly), Kent Altom (Charla), and Kelli Caldwell (John). Lark's message to everyone is from I Corinthians 10:31 "...Whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God." A celebration of God and honoring Lark will be held Thursday, August 8th with receiving of friends from 5:00 to 7:00 with the service at 7:00 at Wallace Memorial Baptist Church located at 701 Merchant Drive Knoxville, TN.
