Larry Charles DeWine

Larry Charles DeWine, age 76 of Knoxville was born July 15, 1941, and he died on the birthday of his first child, Jennifer, June 5, 2018. He was born to Charles Michael and Wilma Pratt DeWine. He married Kathy Wilbanks DeWine on Labor Day, 1963, a marriage that was truly a labor of love until death. They are parents of Jennifer Borek (Brian); John DeWine (Vanna); Kathryn Perry (David); and David DeWine (Mary Susan). He leaves behind to mourn his death and glory in his redemption by Jesus Christ: his wife, children, and 10 grandchildren: Robert and Patrick DeWine; Natalie, Elisabeth, Davis and Duncan Perry; Jonah and Nina DeWine, and Brittney and Carrie Ann DeWine, along with many extended family members and friends. His siblings are Ron DeWine of Chicago, IL, and Becky Colpack of Bessemer, AL. Over the years, Larry was a member of three parishes in Knoxville: Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, and the Cathedral of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, all in Knoxville. Since retirement, he had been, until recently, a daily communicant. He especially enjoyed singing in the choir at Holy Ghost with some of his best friends, under the direction of Louise Wyman. Throughout his life, he enjoyed a happy career in the education and healthcare fields. Larry made many good friends whom he loved and enjoyed working with at: Pratt's Market in Fountain City; construction worker with his beloved Granddaddy John DeWine; teacher at Knoxville Catholic High School; Public Relations and Admissions Director at St. Bernard College, in Cullman, AL; Vice-President of Public Relations and Development at St. Mary's Hospital; a Vice-President of Development for Lyons Associates out of Aspen, Colorado; the founding president of Ft. Sanders Medical Center's first for-profit venture: Fort Sanders West Health and Fitness Center; president of a company he co-founded with Mike Fecher: Resources in Healthcare, where his primary client was Covenant Health System. Larry and his family wish to acknowledge the excellent care he has received by his many doctors and nurses over the years, most especially Dr. Udit Chaudhuri, Dr. Mike Ayers, Dr. Lee Carder, and Dr. James Lewis, and Covenant Hospice. Larry's life will be celebrated Friday evening, June 8, 2018 with visitation from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel, 6200 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN, with Rosary at 7:00. The Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated 12:00, Noon, Saturday, June 9, at the Cathedral of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, 711 Northshore Drive in Knoxville, with Celebrant, Fr. James Haley, CSP. The homily will be delivered by Father Arthur Torres y Barona.
