Lillian Mae Campbell

Lillian Mae Campbell, age 98 of Knoxville has “moved out” on Saturday February 3, 2018 to be home with her Lord and with Bill, her beloved husband of 48 years. She grew up on a small farm in the hills of Union County, doing much work to support the family, she also helped other families with childcare and housework. Milking cows, churning butter, and shoeing horses were just some of her normal home duties. She came to Knoxville as a teen to work, sending some pay back home to help. Here she met Bill at church and developed a lifelong love. While Bill was away in the Pacific during his Army service in World War II, mom wrote to him daily while providing for her children. She continued working in mills and retail stores until retirement from W.T Grant Co. During this time they raised their children with a deep love for God in worship and activities at City View Baptist Church. She loved leading children in Sunday School to love Jesus. Following retirement, she then worked in the church daycare continuing her ministry of sharing her love with those children as well as with her own grandchildren. She was truly a great mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by husband James W. “Bill” Campbell; parents Frank and Mossie Smith; sisters: Gertrude, Lucille, Thelma, Goldie, and Alvelda; brothers: Fred Dale (Infant), Elmer, Herman, and D.G. (Infant); great grandchild Michael. She is survived by brother Clifton Wayne (Shirley); daughter Norma Jean Smelser, son William Fred Campbell, grandchildren: Cynthia (Rich), Lisa, and Greg; great grandchildren: Tiffany (Sam), Dillen (Brittany), Brett, Casey, Ambri, Brison, Courtney, Andy, and Jake; great great grandchildren: Alli, Addi, and Dalton. The family will receive friends on Wednesday February 7, 2018 from 5:00 pm-7:00 pm at ROSE MORTUARY BROADWAY CHAPEL with a 7:00 pm funeral service officiated by Bro Gene Hurley and Bro Lucky Steele. Friends and family will meet Thursday, February 8, 2018 at 12:45 pm for a 1:00 pm interment at Highland Memorial Cemetery.
