Louise "Chris" McAuley Hickey

Louise “Chris” McAuley Hickey, mother, grandmother, and friend to many, welcomed to this earth in 1921 in Yeoman, Indiana, departed peacefully on August 11, 2015 in Nashville, Tennessee, surrounded by family. Quick to laugh, slow to judge, Chris never met a stranger. Devoted member of Belmont United Methodist Church in Nashville, Tenn., her deepest nature was always generous, strong and caring. An airplane pilot with the 99ers, long time Girl Scout leader, active in her communities, avid sports fan and golfer, Chris was a favorite partner in all of these activities, notably playing bridge until the end. These few words cannot begin to describe a full life, well lived; the boundless love Chris had for her family and those around her; or the immense love and admiration of family members for Chris, mom, or grandma and of all who were privileged to know her and call her friend. Predeceased in death by husbands Benjamin Furman McAuley and Gregory Cortez Hickey, and by sister Caroline Christie Moore. Survived by children: Emily (Michael) Passino, Martha (Art) Stinson, Ben F. McAuley, Jr. and fiance Rachael Daniels, and Mack (Paula) Hickey; Grandchildren: Sarah (Brian) Muller, Anne Passino, Benjamin Passino, Rebecca (Will) Wilson, Laura Stinson, Christopher McAuley, Dakota Collins, Trey McAuley, Kreigh McAuley, Samuel and Neyland McAuley, Rachel (Brian) Matthews-Seay, Elizabeth Flatford (Daniel), Holly Hickey; Great-grandchildren: Hunter and Grant McAuley, Deacon Collins, Eleanor Louise Wilson, and Mackenzie Flatford; Nephew Glen (Jill) Moore; Niece Susan Moore, and countless special friends. Graveside service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in Knoxville, Saturday, morning, August 15th at 11:00, followed by a memorial service in the chapel of Belmont United Methodist Church in Nashville on Thursday, August 20th at 10:00, with family visitation at 11:00 in Belmont’s Iris Room. All are welcome. Memorial contributions may be made to the Girl Scouts of the Southern Appalachians (Knoxville, Tennessee) or Belmont United Methodist Church Benevolence Fund (Nashville, Tennessee).
