Lucian Williams Trent

TRENT, LUCIAN WILLIAMS, M.D. - age 90 of Knoxville, passed away Saturday, May 28, 2011 at Ft. Sanders Regional Medical Center. He was surrounded by his loving wife of 52 years, Anne Grinnell Trent and his four children: William Franklin Trent, M.D., Robert Grinnell Trent, M.D., Stephen Brabson Trent, and Melissa Anne Trent Bornemann. Dr. Trent was born July 20, 1920 in Knoxville, TN. He attended Old Knoxville High School where he was a member of the Class of 1938. He went to the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and graduated from the University of Tennessee Medical School, Memphis in 1944. Post Graduate training at Gallinger Municipal Hospital, Sloan - Kettering, John Gaston Hospital, and the Lahey Clinic. He practiced Surgery for 38 years at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center. Dr. Trent was a member of the American Board of Surgery, Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Southeastern Surgical Congress, Tennessee Medical Association, and the Knoxville Academy of Medicine. He was involved in teaching medical students at the University of Tennessee Medical Center here in Knoxville. Dr. Trent was a member of the Optimist Club of Knoxville, former member of the Cherokee Country Club, and a lifelong member of Church Street United Methodist Church. He served his country as a flight surgeon in World War II. He was an avid tennis player. Survived by wife, Anne Grinnell Trent; son and daughter-in-law, William Franklin Trent, M.D. and Annette Trent of Mobile, Alabama; son and daughter-in-law, Robert Grinnell Trent, M.D. and Amy Trent of Redding, California; son and daughter-in-law, Stephen Brabson Trent and Velva Trent of Knoxville; daughter and son-in-law, Melissa Trent Bornemann and Craig Bornemann of Knoxville; and grandchildren: Taylor, Evan, Max, Laura, Grace and Rob Trent and Luke Bornemann. A Funeral service will be held 1pm Tuesday, May 31 at Church Street United Methodist Church with Rev. Andy Ferguson, Rev. Cabel Trent, Rev. Darryll Rasnake, and Rev. Sarah Varnell officiating. Interment to follow at Highland Memorial Cemetery. Serving as active pallbearers: Joe Anderson, Gregory Hoover, Steven Sterling, Bryan Mayo, John Felton, Craig Bornemann, Paul Wohlford, and Mike Crawford. Honorary Pallbearers: Dr. and Mrs. Walter Beahm, Mr. and Mrs. Waldo Bornemann, and Mr. and Mrs. David Alley, Sr. Friends who wish are requested to make memorial contributions to Church Street UMC, P.O.
