Margaret Jane Mahood

Margaret Jane Jones Mahood, Age 93, received her wings at Tennova Residential Hospice on Friday, April 17, 2015. She was born and raised on a farm in Friendsville, TN in 1921. She graduated from Everett High School in Maryville. She attended Berea College in Berea, Kentucky where she received her degree as a Registered Nurse and met her husband, Chester Mahood. After World War ll, they settled in Knoxville, TN and raised their family. She worked as a surgical nurse for an oral surgeon until leaving the workforce for the more important job of being a mother. She had practice with this responsibility having helped raise her younger brothers and sisters since age 12 following her mother’s death. The family became charter members of North Hills Presbyterian Church (later Kirk Hill Presbyterian Church). There she served in various volunteer positions especially with the children and youth. Her natural artistic nature lead her into many areas, including fiber arts, painting and gardening. Her quilts and cross-stitch are treasured by family members lucky enough to have received one. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Judge Chester R. Mahood, Sr.; her father and mother Shirley Houston and Beryl Jones; brothers Howard Jones, Ernest Jones, and Shirley Edward Jones and a sister Dorothy Jones. She is survived by sisters Edna Rubio of Knoxville, TN, Ada Kizer of Knoxville, TN, Nancy Westbrook and husband Jerry of Hermitage, TN, Nellie Al Saigh of Falls Church, VA, and a brother Joseph Jones and wife Beulah of Tulsa, OK; her children Kathleen Morrow and husband David of Brevard, NC, Ramona Pennington and husband Wendell of Cookeville TN, Chester Mahood, Jr of Knoxville, TN and Amy Hartsoe and husband Mark of Maryville, TN; grandchildren Aaron Pennington of Knoxville ,TN, Watson Hartsoe, Henry Hartsoe, and Theodore Hartsoe of Maryville, TN; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 22, 2015 from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm at Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel. Family and friends will gather at Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery (Lyons View Pike) at 1:15 pm for an 1:30 pm graveside service with Rev. Dr. Sean White Officiating. Her four grandsons will serve as pall-bearers. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Mission of Hope, P.O.
