Margaret "Peggy" Lane Egli

EGLI, MARGARET “PEGGY” LANE – age 65 of Knoxville died May 27, 2025 at home. Peggy was born December 9, 1959. She graduated from Lenoir City High School in 1978 and Virgina Intermont College in 1980 with an Associate Degree of Applied Art and later studied Fine Art at the University of Tennessee. Peggy worked as an advertising assistant at White Stores, Inc. and K-VA-T Food Stores for several years then later as a cashier supervisor at Target, but her real love was working with the two-year olds at West Hills Baptist Church Preschool. Growing up in Knoxville, Peggy spent her summers swimming, playing cards and “tennis-baseball” with her many cousins at her grandmother’s house. An avid tennis player, Peggy played UTSA Team Tennis for many years at Bally’s and later Cedar Bluff Racquet Club. She also enjoyed playing classical guitar and loved curling up in a corner with a good book. During the last fifteen years Peggy suffered the debilitating effects of Huntington’s Disease (HD). From the onset, Peggy was determined to be the “best” HD patient one could possibly be. She was an example of what it means to be worthy of one’s suffering and an inspiration on how to accept “the life you didn’t order” and live it with courage and grace. Never complaining, always grateful, her first and last words to everyone were, “I love you.” She is preceded in death by her father, David Michael Lane, her uncle, Steven Patrick Lane. Survivors include her mother Nancy McDonald Newbold and her husband, Charles Newbold; sisters Sally McDonald Lane, Knoxville; Mary Lane DeChellis (Tony), San Antonio, TX; step-sisters Stacy Newbold and Shelly Newbold, both of Knoxville; nephews, Jacob McDonald Coffin (Julia), Brooklyn, NY; Samuel Mark Coffin, Knoxville; John Anthony DeChellis, New York, NY; nieces, Kathleen Paige Coffin, San Diego, CA; Sarah Coffin Ruley (Jonathan), San Diego; Annemarie Lane DeChellis, Austin, TX; Natalie DeChellis Hicks (Clayton), San Antonio, TX; and all her cousins who were like brothers and sisters to her. The family wishes to thank the staff at Park Place Senior Living for their exceptional support and compassion during this difficult time, the many caregivers at Senior Helpers for their dedicated care during Peggy’s illness, and the team at Smoky Mountain Hospice for their kindness and compassionate care during Peggy’s final days. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be planned at a later date.
