Mrs Margaret W ("Margie") Morgan

Margaret W. (“Margie”) Morgan, age 87, of Knoxville passed away peacefully in Clarity Pointe on Saturday, November 8. She was a true lady governed by old school Southern traditions in etiquette and deportment. Margie was always impeccably and appropriately dressed, and took great pride in wearing her pearls every day. She was an adoring wife, strict but loving mother, wonderful cook, ultimate organizer and entertainer, friend to many, and a volunteer in a myriad of organizations. Margie was the third of 4 children born to Raymond and Bessie Wallace. They lived in Powell Station where they owned a small grocery and gas store. She graduated from Powell High School and went straight to Tennessee Wesleyan College where she graduated in 1947 after holding many leadership positions and receiving various honors. Margie immediately became a Medical Technologist. She later lived in Memphis, Lewisburg, TN; Baton Rouge, LA., and New Orleans, LA. before returning to East Tennessee in the late 1950s. She and her beloved husband of 61 years, Travis E. Morgan, MD of Trousdale County, TN had an exceptional marriage which began in December, 1952 and they raised their three children in Knoxville. Margie was a long-term member of The Episcopal Church of the Ascension and served in various leadership roles including Jr. and Sr. Warden on the Vestry, and most notably 37 years on the Altar Guild, serving as Directress for many years. She was also very active in the Medical Auxiliary and Episcopal Church Women. She led a very full life. Margie’s personal passions were crafts, bridge clubs, and traveling. Her personally designed and exquisitely detailed eggs graced the homes in 4 countries. She and her husband Travis ultimately visited approximately 60 foreign countries and all 50 states in the USA. ‘Lovie’ leaves her surviving children: Melissa M. Hutcheson (Rusty) and Travis E. Morgan, Jr. (“Chip”), all of Knoxville. She was preceded in death by her husband Travis E. Morgan, MD and son Matthew W. Morgan (Patty) of Knoxville. Her grandchildren are Ralph K. Hutcheson, III (“Kit”) of Charlotte, Morgan C. Hutcheson of Knoxville, Margaret K. Hutcheson (“Katy”) of Atlanta, and Ty S. Morgan of Knoxville. She also leaves her sister JoAnn Johnson of Gautier, MS and many special nieces and nephews. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to their devoted family friend of 37 years Lucille Mapp, recent caregiver Brenda Pemberton, and the staff at Clarity Pointe. Funeral service at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 12th at The Episcopal Church of the Ascension with the Very Reverend Dr. Howard J. Hess officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall. Interment will be private.
