Margret Elizabeth Leoppold Orr

Margret Elizabeth Leopold Orr, age 97, died in Knoxville, TN on November 17th, 2016. May she rest in peace and rise in glory. Margret was born in 1919 in North Knoxville to Elsie Tillery Leopold and Herman Leopold, a native of Bern, Switzerland and the owner of a plumbing, heating, and cooling business later known as Leopold & Orr, Inc. A lifelong Knoxvillian, Margret graduated from The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, in 1942 with a degree in Home Economics. She married Harold Eugene Orr on April 16, 1944. Prior to her marriage, Margret worked at Robertshaw Fulton as a draftsman and at Miller’s Department Store as an interior designer. She was an active member of Second Presbyterian Church, Ossoli Circle, and the Lakemore Hills Garden Club. She was also quite active with her husband in the National Association of Plumbing, Heating and Cooling Contractors during his tenure as an officer at the state and national level representing Leopold & Orr. Margret will always be remembered for her artistic talent, attention to detail, and love of beautiful things. She was an exceptional cook and baker, avid gardener, artist, and watercolorist. She always displayed an impeccable sense of style in her home and her personal appearance. She enjoyed the Smoky Mountains all of her life, and was an avid fan of the Vols. Survivors include daughter, Janine Orr; son-in-law, Frank Finn; grandson, Henry Finn; and nephew, Robert Hutson. Margret was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Orr; her son, Edward Orr; parents, Elsie Tillery Leopold and Herman Leopold; sister, Anna Katherine Hutson; and brother-in-law, William F. Hutson. Funeral service will be at Second Presbyterian Church on Thursday, December 1, at 1:00 P.M. with the Reverend Timothy A. Reynolds officiating. The family will receive friends in the Church Parlor after the service. A private interment will precede the service, at Lynnhurst Cemetery. The family would like to thank Shannondale Independent Living Retirement Center for the lovely life she lived while in good health. The family also expresses deep gratitude to the second-floor nursing and caregiving staff at Shannondale for their loving care of Margret, and to her special daily caregiver, Kathy Tharp.
