Martha "Cissie" Dinwiddie

Martha “Cissie” Dinwiddie passed away Sunday, June 24, 2018 at her home in Knoxville, Tennessee. We can be joyful with the knowledge that she is reunited with her father, George L. Dinwiddie Jr., and her mother, Martha Brown Dinwiddie, each of whom she loved and missed dearly after they passed. Cissie was born July 30th, 1956 in Knoxville, Tennessee. She graduated from Bearden High School and attended The University of Tennessee. She briefly owned The Clothes Trunk, a retail clothing store, before going to work with her father at George Dinwiddie Distributing. Cissie was an incredible spirit: always the life of the party, she never missed a chance to throw out a colorful zinger. She was known by all for her tremendous sense of humor, her incredible wit, and her legendary comeback lines. Her ability to captivate the attention of a room and to find the humor in everything will be greatly missed. Trademarks of her enormous personality—her voice, laugh, and smell, to name but a few—will continue to live on for years to come. Her charisma was evident in all interactions with her, but it was because of her great capacity for love that she possessed such magnetism. She deeply cared for dogs and volunteered to foster many rescue animals. Cissie truly loved her friends and her family above all else, even though she sometimes had challenges expressing it. Despite her struggle with health issues, she never lost her commitment to Christ, and her belief that one day she would be in heaven and free from pain. In her absence we can find solace in knowing that she is with the God that brought her great strength and comfort during life. Cissie is preceded in death by her parents George and Martha Dinwiddie. She is survived by her son Thad Williams and her beloved Westie Toddy; her brother George and wife Anita, and nieces Anna and Martha; and brother Harry and wife Karen, and nephew Harry Jr. Interment will be Friday June 29 at 9:30 a.m. at Highland Memorial Cemetery followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. at The Episcopal Church of The Ascension. The family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall after the service. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Young-Williams Animal Center.
