Mary Ann Miller

Mary Ann Jones Miller – age 74 of Knoxville, passed away peacefully at 3:10 p.m. on Monday, June 11, 2012 at Tennova Residential Hospice following a brief illness. Born June 9, 1938 in Louisville, Kentucky, Mary Ann was reared in London, Kentucky. She met her sweetheart and future husband at a New Year's Eve Party at Fourth Avenue Baptist Church in Louisville, Kentucky. She then married and settled in Louisville, Kentucky where they lived until July 2002 when she and her husband relocated to retire in Knoxville, Tennessee. Mary Ann attended George Tingley School for the Deaf in Louisville, Kentucky, and graduated with an associate degree in Accounting from Sue Bennett College in London, Kentucky. Mary Ann was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Knoxville where she actively participated in the deaf congregation and the women's ministry. She served as president, treasurer and trustee for the Kentucky Baptist Association for the Deaf and later helped build a women's ministry group at First Baptist Church of Knoxville called "Women of the Word". Her career in the business world began with the Farm Bureau Insurance Company in Louisville and grew to include the First National Bank in London, Kentucky, Belknap, Inc. in Louisville, Chi Chi's Restaurants, Inc. and ResCare, Inc. before finally retiring in 2001 and moving to Knoxville to be near her daughter and grandbabies. Preceded in death by her father and mother, Howard Milton Jones and Thelma Bergenroth Jones. She is survived by her loving husband of forty-seven years, Johnnie B. Miller of Knoxville; precious daughter and son-in-law, Tina Miller Holt and Reverend David A. Holt of Knoxville; grandsons whom she adored, Jackson Holt and Jefferson Holt; brother, Robert Tyree Jones of Georgetown, Indiana; several nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special thank-you to Smoky Mountain Hospice for their excellent care and support during Mary Ann's illness. A celebration of Mary Ann's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 16, 2012 in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church Knoxville officiated by Reverend Greg Johannsen and Reverend David A. Holt. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Deaf Memorial Fund, 510 W. Main Street, Knoxville, Tennessee 37902.
