Mary D. Asquith

Mary D. Asquith, age 91, of Knoxville passed away Saturday, May 18, 2024 after a lengthy illness. Mary was born in Concord TN on October 15, 1932 to Jake and Gladys Derrick. She graduated from Farragut High School in 1950. A life-long resident of Knoxville, Mary retired from the State of Tennessee after 30 years of service with the Tennessee State Department of Training and Development in the Knoxville office. She was a member of Christus Victor Lutheran Church. Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 39 years Harry W. Asquith; son Kenneth Reedy Jr; grandson Jason Hall; sisters Margaret Needham, Anna Beeler, Nancy Seamens; and stepchildren Patricia Asquith and Mike Asquith. Mary and Harry enjoyed many happy years together traveling, fishing with friends in Florida , attending University of Tennessee football games and celebrations with the family. Mary is survived by daughters Kay Hickman of Huntsville, Al, Kathy Lami of Boise, Idaho, Sylvia Hall (James) of Knoxville; sister Sue Scarbrough of Knoxville; stepdaughters Betty Huffaker of Knoxville, Suzy Woods of Wartburg, and Carol Roseberry of Wilmore KY; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mary loved spending time with her family; grandchildren, Heather Hickman, Halsey Hickman, Jessica Speropulos(Peter), Allison Sawyer , Hunter Hickman (Rewa), and Robert Lami, Seth Huffaker, Zach Huffaker (Ashley), Christy Bundy (Adrian), Chris Asquith (Katie), Steven Asquith (Rachel), Chip Woods (Lisa), Kellie Sexton , Karen Jamison (Bill), Cheryl Faul (Brian), and Mark Roseberry (Felicia); Great-grandchildren Avery Holland, Lucy and Sylvie Speropulos, Harry, Jack and Ada Sawyer, Brayden White, Christian, Abby, Ashley and Cooper Woods, Lily and Jacob Asquith, Evan Asquith, Hawk and Wren Huffaker, Amanda Clabo and Cassie Henche, Forrest Jamison, Ethan Goforth, Chloe Blankenship, Janie Whittenberg, Marlie Madill and Eli Roseberry; Great-great grandchildren Carson Henche, Daniel Clabo, Judah, Ella and Tavish Blankenship, Tyler, Remi and Max Goforth and Dapphne Madill. Mary leaves behind a legacy of love for her family and friends. She will be remembered as a devoted wife and mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend who loved her family and lived her life with a quiet strength, heartfelt kindness, generous spirit and strong faith in God . The family will receive friends at Rose Funeral & Cremation - Mann, 6200 Kingston Pike on Saturday, June 1, 2024 from 11:30am-12:30pm with a funeral service at 12:30 pm, Pastor William Ondracka officiating. Following the funeral family and friends will gather at New Gray Cemetery 2724 Western Avenue at 2:00pm for a graveside service.
