Frances Moore Rogers and William K. Rogers, M.D. We are heartbroken at the deaths of our mother and grandmother Frances Rogers, and stepfather and grandfather Bill Rogers, but comforted by the fact they are together in Heaven and enjoying the company of their loved ones who predeceased them. Mary Frances Moore Rogers was born on July 9, 1934 in Greenville, Tennessee, and died on June 5, 2015 in Knoxville at the age of 80. She was the only child of Clifford Moore and Nancy Maude Heck, and was raised in Bulls Gap and Morristown. She graduated from Morristown High School in 1952, where she acted in many plays and was co-captain of the women’s varsity basketball team under the legendary coach “Petie” Siler. She received an RN degree from East Tennessee Baptist Nursing School in 1955, and worked as a nurse in various capacities throughout her lifetime. She loved sewing, various crafts and reading. William K. Rogers, M.D. was born on March 24, 1921 in Salem, Ohio and died on May 6, 2015 at the age of 94. He was the only child of Earl and Margaret Rogers, and graduated from Miami University of Ohio, then received his M.D. from the University of Rochester. After a surgery internship at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis and a general surgery fellowship, he moved to Knoxville in 1952 to join the thoracic surgery practice of Drs. Waterman and Domm, which was eventually renamed Waterman, Domm and Rogers. Bill retired from practice of medicine in 1988, and a plaque on the 7N floor at Ft. Sanders Hospital honored his many years of practice at that hospital. Bill and Frances married in May of 1982, and were devoted to each other. Bill was predeceased by his daughter Becky. Bill and Frances are survived by Bill’s son Tim Rogers and daughter Elizabeth Biggar and husband Kurt; Frances’s daughter Tina (Lundy) Melo and husband Tom; and two cherished granddaughters, Virginia Melo and Caroline Melo. Frances also treasured time with her cousin Randy Pearce of Morristown and his family. The family would like to say a special thank you to the staff of Elmcroft of West Knoxville where Bill and Frances moved in the summer of 2013.Frances was proud to have been a founding member of St. Mark United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to the church at 7001 Northshore Dr., Knoxville, TN. 37919. A memorial service for both Bill and Frances will be held 3:00 PM Saturday at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel with Reverend David Graybeal officiating.
