Mary Jo Johanne Campbell

Mary Johanne (Jo) Campbell, wife of late Carlos Clinton Campbell, Jr., was born October 29, 1924 in Hackensack, NJ and passed away on Friday, December 15, 2017. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roland Judson and Jane Moneypenny West; brother, James Roland West, Lt. USAF; husband, Norman Mackintosh Todd, Lt., USMC; husband, James Moore Derryberry Lt., USMC. She is survived by her children: Carlos Clinton (Kent) Campbell, III, MD, PhD; wife, Eliza; Robert Marshall Campbell, MD; wife, Rita; Melissa Derryberry/Campbell Hansen, MPA, NHA; husband Steve; John Franklin Campbell, MD; wife True; Rebecca (Becky) Derryberry/Campbell Arrants, MoE; husband, Gary; grandchildren: Kristine Campbell-Sandweiss, MD, PhD; husband Dave; Patrick Campbell, MD, PhD; wife Jennifer; Robin, Charlotte, and Benjamin Campbell; Lindsay Chesley; Logan and Maisie Thompson; and Jordan Hansen; Peter Campbell; wife, Courtney; Jackson Campbell; Walker Campbell; wife, Christine; and Jennifer and Joel Molinoff; seven great grandchildren; brother-in-law James Marshall Campbell; sister-in-law Jean Derryberry Anderson; and several nieces and nephews and their families. Mary Jo was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Ascension, Knoxville, TN. She attended Cornell University School of Journalism, was employed by NBC Television News in New York in the late ’40s and early ’50s, was past president of the Knoxville Symphony League, and a devoted volunteer at East Tennessee Children’s Hospital for 34 years. Mary Jo’s and Clinton’s greatest joys were their children and their family reunions. She and Clinton enjoyed traveling and golfing together and with friends. To the entire staff of Second Floor Assisted Living, as well as the staff of Second Floor Health Care, Shannondale Maryville: “My deepest gratitude.” In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Clinton and Mary Jo Campbell Camp Eagles Nest Foundation—East Tennessee Children’s Hospital, 2018 W Clinch Ave, Knoxville, TN 37916 Services will be on Friday, December 22, at 12:30 pm in the chapel at the Independent Living Building of Shannondale Retirement Community with Renee Willingham officiating; 804 Shannondale Way, Maryville, TN.
