Matthew "Matt" Cory Strobel

Matthew “Matt” Cory Strobel – age 48, of Knoxville, passed away suddenly on Friday, August 19, 2022 of natural causes. Matt was born on Travis Air Force base in 1974 to Cory and Patricia Strobel. As a military child Matt grew in several places but spent the majority of his early years in San Antonio, Texas. His family relocated to Knoxville when he was 10. Matt attended Sacred Heart School and was a 1993 graduate of Bearden High School. After a brief time at the University of Nebraska, Matt transferred back to the University of Tennessee where he graduated with a bachelors degree in marketing and retail sales. After a few years of civilian life he answered the call and entered the US Navy. The other men and women affectionately referred to him as “grandpa” as he was 30 years old when he joined. After leaving the military Matt had various jobs but found his niche most recently as a manager at the Fresh Market. He loved people and never met a stranger. Matt met and married his best friend in 2016 after being set up by his future brother-in-law. He was truly the best “funcle” anyone could ever have. Matt and Mary Beth were active members of First Baptist Concord. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Florence and G.C. “Jerry” Strobel, Bob and Vannie Hagge; uncle, Jim Strobel; aunt, Terri Heusinkvelt; and his favorite 4-legged friend, Luke. Matt is survived by his wife, Mary Beth Poole Strobel; parents, Cory and Patricia Strobel; brothers, Joshua (Katherine) and Benjamin (Tori Becker) Strobel; mother and father-in-love, Beverly and Tony Poole; sister-in law, Leigh Ann (Adam) Foster; nieces, Marleigh and Zoie Foster; aunts and uncles, Senator Deb (Bruce) Fischer, Karen Strobel, Randy (Mary Claire) Hagge, Julie (David) Schwasinger, Barb (BJ) Hagge, John Heusinkvelt, Ron (Suzanne) Hagge; and many cousins and close friends. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at Rose Funeral & Cremation – Mann. A celebration of Matt’s life will follow at 7:00 pm with Rev. Corey Mayfield officiating. The interment will take place Thursday at 2:00 pm at East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery with military honors presented.
