Mona Wilson

Mona Jean Wilson, 85 years old of Knoxville, Tennessee passed away on June 3, 2023 after a lengthy illness. Mona was born in Knoxville, TN on Sept 3, 1937 to William Yates and Dorothy Wise Wilson. She was a graduate of West High School, class of 1955. She graduated from The University of Tennessee with a B.A. in 1959. She was a member of Sigma Kappa Society. She graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Law with a Juris Doctor Degree. She practiced as an attorney In Illinois and Tennessee. She was the founder and owner of The Tile Source where she practiced until her illness. Mona was known for her intelligence, her ethic of hard work, style, and achievements. As a young woman she was named to Outstanding Young Women of America. While a resident at Shannondale Healthcare she was named by the Tennessee Health Care Association as a member of the 2012 Who's Who in Tennessee Long-term Care for lifetime achievement. She was one of the women of her generation who helped women gain status both in education, work, and society. Her many interests included music and art. She was a supporter of the arts. She enjoyed the Knoxville Symphony as a season ticket holder. Mona was an AVID fan of the Tennessee Volunteer Football Team and Lady Vols Basketball. She attended all home games as a season ticket holder for both teams. She also traveled to many bowl games as well as Final Four Tournaments for the Lady Vols. She liked to win. Her wardrobe included a lot of orange and white which she wore with pride. Mona traveled extensively. These trips included Africa, China, Europe and Russia. She traveled to Russia at age 62 where she was able to fly to the edge of space with the Cosmonaut Program. This program required application and approval in order to be able to fly into space. Mona was lucky to have a special group of friends who met in school as children and proceeded through life as friends. They remained very supportive of her while she was a resident at Shannondale Health Care. The family wishes to recognize and thank the 2nd floor staff at Shannondale Health Care for their wonderful physical care and emotional support of Mona during her 14 year stay there after a stroke. Words of Thank You are not enough. They treated her with respect and dignity. Preceded in death by her parents and sister, Carolyn Wilson Guy Hodge. Survived by sister, Betty Wilson Tallent and brother-in-law Fred F Tallent. Also Survived by niece, Heather Guy Cooper, and nephews Justin A. Guy (Sara) and Brent W, Tallent (Crystal). A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, June 25th from 4:00-6:00pm at Rose Funeral & Cremation - Mann (6200 Kingston Pike). In lieu of Flowers please contribute to The Knoxville Symphony Society or Young Williams Animal Center.
