Nancy Jane Henry

Nancy Jane Henry age 85 of Knoxville passed away on Saturday January 13, 2018, at Ft. Sanders Regional Medical Center. She was a member of Eastminster Presbyterian Church. Nancy was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her grandchildren and Great-grandchildren knew Nancy as “Nanee”. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and was the first one to offer her help when needed. She loved visiting her family and being at the center of all Holiday activities. She was an avid supporter of all things related to the Tennessee Vols and was always decked out in “Big Orange” for all the games. She enjoyed planting flowers each spring and enjoyed siting in the sun surrounded by the beautiful flowers at their home. Nancy was an avid reader and had a large book collection. Recently, she enjoyed painting pictures for family and friends. Nancy graduated from Knoxville High School in 1950. She worked at the Knox County Court House – Probate retiring after 30 years of dedicated service. She was a member of the Career Council of Women, Eastern Star, and the Knoxville Garden Club. Nancy was the older of two children. After Nancy retired, she enjoyed going with Bob, her husband of 62 years, to their favorite places to eat and meet both old and new friends. Her loving spirit and inviting manner attracted people to want to know her. Everyone who met her thought Nancy was the sweetest and kindest lady they had ever known. She is survived by son and daughter-in-law: Robert E. Henry and Melissa C. Henry; daughter and son-in-law: Karen Ann Liles and Jeffrey B. Liles; grandchildren: Stephen J. Poteet and Tiffany, Allison P. Trammell and Wes, Anna P. McCain and Matthew, Claire S. Henry, Abigail L. Henry; great-grandchildren: Eliza Dale Trammell, Lila Marie Poteet, Vivian Kate Poteet, Lucille Jane Poteet, and Baby McCain (to be); sister: Polly Hood; nieces: Cherie Hood Adcock, Jan Suddarth (Greg), Pam Harrison, and Melissa Edwards; nephews: James Scott Hood (Rhonda), Tom Henry (Glenda), Billy Henry (Sherry), Arnold Henry (Donna), and Mike Edwards (Cathy); sisters-in-law: Ruby Jean Edwards (Lamar) and Betty Henry. In addition to many other nieces, nephews, and friends, especially Estalee Newcomb and Emily Jones, the family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Shannondale Assisted Living and Health Care for the loving care they provided, specifically Christy Reynolds who loved her like a grandmother. The family would also like to thank the seventh floor Fort Sanders nursing staff for their excellent care provided to our Nanee. Special appreciation to Dr. Daniel Slutzker and Dr. Walter Zibas for their compassion and care. The family will receive friends from 10:30 am until 12:00 noon Saturday January 20, 2018, at ROSE MORTUARY BROADWAY CHAPEL. A funeral service will follow with Dr. Dennis Davidson and Stephen Poteet officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
