Nannette Hicks

Nannette Hicks, former resident of Memphis, TN. , but residing in Knoxville for the last twenty seven years, passed away at the age of 97, on August 21. She was a believer in Jesus Christ and trusted Him as her Lord and Savior. She was an active member of Bellevue Baptist Church in Memphis for over fifty years. She worshipped at Calvary Baptist in Knoxville. Nannette retired from the Army Corps of Engineers, working in the Accounting Dept. She and her late husband, Windy Hicks, were high school sweethearts who married prior to his enlisting in the Navy to serve in WWII. They were married 64 years. Nannette was the daughter of deceased Earnest and Nannie Williams, and was preceded in death by her three sisters, Earnestine Cox, Mary G. North, and Pearl Jones. She leaves her only daughter, Dianne Hicks Sims and son-in-law, Michael Sims (Mickey). Her grandsons are Michael Sims, Jr. (wife, Jessalyn) and John David Sims (wife, Bobbi). Her great grandchildren are: Michael Sims III (Trey), Taylor Sims, John David Sims II, and Kiersten Sims. She treasured times with all of her grandchildren, especially in the summer for “cousin time”. Special nieces and nephews are Gay Bond (Memphis), Cheri Shames (Florida), Pam North (Washington), and Jimmy Powers (Florida). Many thanks to the staff at NHC, Farragut for their many years of special care, as well as Dr. Cathy Mathes. Receiving of friends will be Thurs. night, August 26, at 7:00, at Rose Mann in Bearden. Her son-in-law, Dr. Michael Sims will speak at 7:45. Burial will be a private time for family at the Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery on Lyons Bend. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to West Park Baptist Church Community Care Fund (8833 Middlebrook Pike, Knoxville, TN 37923), Samaritan's Purse (PO Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607), or Shriner's Children Hospital (5770 Shelby Oaks Dr., Memphis, TN 38134).
