Nellie Justine Boas

Boas, Nellie Justine of Knoxville, formally of Brandon, FL and Syracuse, NY, passed away at home to be with the Lord in Heaven on Monday, June 13, 2011. Preceded in death by parents, Thomas and Eva Kondra; son, Thomas E. Boas; daughter, Cyndee Lou Boas McCormick; and husband of fifty-one years, Ellsworth (Al) Boas. Nellie met Al at the Roller Skating Rink in Syracuse and he remained the love of her life. In the early years they raised their four children in the city then moved to a large farm in upstate New York. Nellie remained a stay at home mother. Sunday was family day beginning with Church and ending with a festive dinner and the evening banana split. In 1969 they moved to Brandon, FL, where Nellie was a school crossing guard and teacher’s aide for gifted children. They were active members of Nativity Catholic Church where they celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary with an impressive formal wedding ceremony Mass. After being widowed, Nellie moved closer to her number one priority, her family. Nellie became an active member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church and the O’Conner Center. She enjoyed line dancing, yoga, and swimming aerobics at the YMCA. Nellie taught rosary classes and made rosaries, donating them to hospitals and churches. She volunteered as a Pink Lady at St. Mary’s Hospital and was a Bella Donna Red Hat Lady and usherette at the Tennessee Theatre. Some hobbies included oil painting, crocheting, needle point, and collecting children’s figurines. Last October, Nellie celebrated her ninetieth birthday party at Regas surrounded by her family and friends. Nellie was admired for her family devotion, helpfulness, and youthful attitude. Her motto was , “I can do that, I can do anything.” Survived by two daughters, Darly Drown, Barbra Naessig and husband Wayne; grandchildren, Jeff Currier and wife Tammy, Thomas Wilson, Amanda Lentz and husband Abraham, Josh Allen and wife Justine. The bright light in her life were her five great-grandchildren, Thomas and Trey Wilson, Iris and Lily Lentz, and the newest baby, Isaac James Allen. Special thanks to Laura Miller with Mercy Hospice and neighbor Sharlene Barback for their kindness and support. Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 am Friday, June 17, 2011, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church (1041 N Central St, Knoxville, Tennessee 37917). The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 am Friday at Holy Ghost Catholic Church. Arrangements by ROSE MORTUARY BROADWAY CHAPEL.
