Nicholas Lowrey Nick Underwood

UNDERWOOD, NICHOLAS LOWREY, SR. (NICK) - age 94, of Knoxville, went home to Heaven on August 10, 2012, at Beverly Park Place. A man of integrity and a strong Christian influence and blessing to his family. He was a member of Lincoln Park Baptist Church and Disciples Sunday School Class, serving faithfully for many years as a deacon, Sunday School leader and teacher. He was a dedicated husband, loving father, and proud Pepaw to his grandsons and great grandchildren. He was honored to have served in the Army during WWII as a combat engineer in France and Germany. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service. Preceded in death by the love of his life and wife of 71 years, Juanita Cooper Underwood; parents, Mark E. Underwood, Sr. and Mary Lou Lowrey Underwood; son, Nicholas Lowrey Underwood, Jr.; sister, Virginia Clark. Survived by daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Ed Cox of Knoxville; daughter-in-law, Judy Underwood of Cleveland; grandsons, Kevin Cox (Nikki) of Maryville, Adam Cox of Knoxville, Jeff Underwood (Amy) of Cleveland, and Greg Underwood (Kara) of Ooltewah; great grandchildren, Blake and Kennedy Cox of Maryville, Gracie and Chance Underwood of Ooltewah; brother, Mark E. Underwood, Jr. of Gatlinburg; several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to the loving staff at Beverly Park Place during his last days. Also, sincere appreciation is extended for his special care at Windsor Gardens Assisted Living. The family will receive friends Monday, August 13, 2012, from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel. Service to follow with Rev. Ron Mouser officiating. The family and friends will meet at 10:45 am, Tuesday, August 14, 2012, at Greenwood Cemetery for an 11:00 am interment service with full military honors presented by the Volunteer State Veterans Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be Ed Cox, Kevin Cox, Adam Cox, Jeff Underwood, and Greg Underwood. Honorary pallbearers will be Blake Cox and Chance Underwood. In Lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials contributions be made to One Vision International, 3508 Maryville Pike #B, Knoxville, TN 37920 or to the Knox Area Rescue Ministries.
