Ouida Myers Lowry

LOWRY, OUIDA MYERS - of Memphis, formerly of Knoxville, went to be with her Lord and Savior on December 21, 2013. She was born on July 13, 1925 in Mt. Pleasant, Texas. Raised in Paris Texas, then in 1946 Ouida moved to Oak Ridge when her husband Bill returned from Europe after World War II. They built a new home in Knoxville in 1956, and Ouida moved to Memphis in 2005 to be near her son and daughter. She was a member of the Association for the Preservation of Tennessee Antiquities and the West Hills Gardeners. Active in her children's school activities at West Hills, Bearden High School, and Webb School, she was a member of Church Street United Methodist Church where she served both as chair and treasurer of her circle in the United Methodist Women. She also prepared the communion linens. Following her retirement from the University of Tennessee Library, Ouida served as a volunteer at UT hospital in the trauma unit. She enjoyed playing bridge, traveling, and UT sports. She also loved her Lord, family, all her friends from early childhood on, and her country. Ouida will always be remembered as a gracious and accomplished hostess - her home and kitchen were always filled with love, infectious laughter, family, and friends. She exemplified a loving and forgiving heart and always had time to listen. Embracing life with enthusiasm and strength, Ouida was truly an example to all who knew her. Preceded in death by her father and mother, Judge and Mrs. Elisha Myers of Paris, Texas, her sisters Merle Myers Watson and Genevieve (Sugie) Myers Bell, and her loving husband William A. (Bill) Lowry, Sr. Her survivors are her son William A. (Bill) Lowry, Jr.; daughter-in-law Diana; her daughter Margaret (Marky) Lowry Martin; her grandson William Lowry (Will) Martin and his wife Sara; and her great granddaughter Katherine Ann Martin. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Pat Lowry Merrill of Ft. Worth, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Church Street United Methodist Church, Knoxville, Tennessee. Online condolences may be sent to www.rosemortuary.com. A celebration of life will be held at Rose Mortuary Mann's Heritage Chapel on Friday, December 27 at 2:00 PM. Interment to follow at Highland Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, December 26, 2013, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Rose Mortuary Mann's Heritage Chapel.
