Pamela Young Richardson

Pamela Young Richardson, Pam to her friends and family, passed away at 8:32 PM on November 6, 2023, surrounded by her family. Pam was born on November 25, 1946, to Alice and Douglas Young, in Portsmouth, Virginia. Pam was 76 years old at the time of her passing. First and foremost, Pam was a beloved wife, mother, and friend to all. She is survived by her husband, Chuck Richardson, her sons Dean and Brett Richardson, their wives Courtney and Katy Richardson, her grandson Hayes Carlisle Richardson, her sister Douglas Ann Abramow (Dougie), and her niece and nephew Stephanie Segal and Douglas Abramow. Pam, and her sister Dougie, moved to Knoxville in 1952. She attended Holston High School, where she was a cheerleader, graduating in 1965. She attended the University of Tennessee, was a proud member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority, and graduated in 1969. While attending UT she met her future husband, Chuck, in the Fall of 1966. They were married shortly thereafter, in 1968, and remained married until her passing. After graduation, Pam and Chuck settled in Knoxville - with pitstops in Atlanta and New York City. Pam was a teacher, dedicating the majority of her professional career to teaching English (along with one of her best friends, Denise Anderson). In 1975, Pam and Chuck welcomed twins, Carlisle and Alexander, who passed away shortly after their births. In 1976 Pam and Chuck had Dean, and three years later, in 1979, Brett was born. Pam loved her children with all her being, and her children could not have asked for a more dedicated mother. Pam took great pride in being a mom and wife and was fiercely dedicated to those she loved. She loved watching Dean swim and Brett play tennis (they were both collegiate scholarship athletes). She was incredibly proud of them both, never missing a meet or match. More recently, Pam was thrilled to welcome her first grandchild into the world, Hayes Carlisle, who she adored. Pam was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Knoxville, the Nine O’clock Cotillion, the Junior League, the Garden Study Club, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and Cherokee County Club. Pam loved literature (both teaching and reading it), hiking Mt. LeConte in the Spring, traveling the world with her friends and family, and beach trips (primarily to Hilton Head Island). However, what she loved more than anything was spending time with her friends and family. Pam was a light - she brightened anything she touched - she never met a stranger. Pam, despite her soft and loving way, was also a fighter. She was a cancer survivor, she fought heart failure until her last breath, and she was her family’s protector. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 4:00 - 6:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be on Friday at 1:00 pm at Berry Highland West Cemetery.
