Mrs. Patricia Mary Hanafin Cassels

Patricia Mary Hanafin Cassels age 81, passed away Sunday, August 26, 2018 surrounded by family. She was born in Manhattan on February 8, 1937 to Patrick and Mary Hanafin. Pat is survived by her loving, dedicated husband and best friend Pete Cassels of 63 years, her children; Doreen Zander of Pawling, NY, Patricia Lynn Doria of Maynardville, TN and Peter Cassels Jr. of Poughkeepsie, NY., her sister Marguerite Arnold (Willie), brother Edward Hanafin (Elaine, multiple grandchildren and great grandchildren all whom she loved dearly and will miss her deeply. She was heavily involved in her church, St Dennis of Hopewell Junction, NY where she had an integral part of the RCIA program converting many to the catholic faith therefore she has an incredible amount of God Children. Also was instrumental in organizing the Bishops Appeal for many years as well as volunteering where ever she could. She started a guitar mass for the underprivileged attending a private catholic school. She was on a bowling team. She played the accordion and took belly dancing lessons. Pat graduated from St Catherine's Academy. Following graduation, she met and married the man of her dreams, Pete Cassels on August 25th, 1956. Together they raised three children in the city, moved to Westchester County, NY where Pat helped her husband run their automotive repair and body shop business in the Bronx and Ardsley, NY. After closing one of the shops, Pat became a purchasing agent for an electronics company in Mt Kisco, NY. They relocated to Dutchess County to be close to her daughter and grandchildren and where she helped her husband with his Snap On Franchise. In February 2018, Pat and Pete moved to Powell, TN to continue her care in a state of the art memory care center. She was loved and respected by all she came in contact with. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at Saint Albert the Great Catholic Church from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm, immediately followed by a 12:00 pm mass service officiated by Father Steve Pawelk. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association in Patricia Cassels name. Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
