Robert E. Goodman

Goodman, Robert Eugene (Gene), Sr. – age 82 of Knoxville, passed away at Parkwest Medical Center on Saturday, January 19, 2013. He is preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Oder Goodman; sister, Betty Jo; brothers, Ted and Wintford Goodman. Mr. Goodman was a member of Parkway Baptist Church and was a past member and deacon at Grace Covenant Baptist Church. He retired from Norfolk Southern Police Department in 1987 after thirty-three years of service. Mr. Goodman is a veteran of the United States Army, serving in the Korean conflict in the Army Security Agency. His joy in life were his great-grandchildren, Caleb, Layden and Chloe, Noah and being Santa Claus for the State of Kentucky, Town of Farragut and the Helen Ross McNabb Center's Mother Goose Program. He was a kind, gentle man who dearly loved his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Jane; daughter, Renee Warren; son, Rob (Diana) Goodman; grandchildren, Shellie (Steve) Hall, Nicholas (Alissa) Goodman, Jared Goodman, Wesley Warren; sister, Iva Styles; sister-in-law, Ruby Goodman; sister-in-law, Dolores (Eugene) Ownby; brother-in-law, Steve (Brenda) Leach; nephew, Tyler Leach who called him grandpa; cousin, Bob Leach; many loving nephews, nieces, and dear friends. A funeral service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Rose Mortuary officiated by Bennie Hagie and Stephen Hall. Family and friends will meet at 12:45 p.m. Thursday at Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel to travel in procession to East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery (John Sevier Highway) for a 1:30 p.m. interment service with full military honors presented by the Volunteer State Veterans Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to East Tennessee Children's Hospital, 2018 Clinch Avenue, Knoxville, Tennessee 37916, St. Jude's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38015 or to the charity of your choice.
