Robert Lee Tugwell

Dr. Robert Lee Tugwell,, Sr. (Colonel, U.S. Army Reserve, Retired), age 91 of Knoxville, was called home to Heaven and passed away peacefully, Sunday, March 28, 2010. He is the son of the late Frank E. and Daisy C. Tugwell. Robert was raised in Pensacola, Florida and graduated from the University of Florida, the University of Alabama and received his Doctorate from Kansas State University. Dr. Tugwell was a professor with the University of Tennessee for 31 years in the Animal Science Department. He served the United States Army in England during World War II and continued in the Army Reserve for another 30 years. During part of that time, he was Commander of the Command and General Staff School in Knoxville. Bob was a longtime member of Second Presbyterian Church, serving as Elder, Deacon and Teacher. He loved to fish, saltwater or fresh, Tennessee or Florida. He loved to play Bridge and garden. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 62 years and the love of his life, Marian Elliott Tugwell; son, John Stephen Tugwell; brothers, Dr. Wilton E. Tugwell, Dr. Frank E. Tugwell, Jr., Roy M. Tugwell and his faithful Schnauzer, Floyd. Bob is survived by his children and their spouses, Kay and Jack Cerone of Pensacola, FL, Bob and Cindy Tugwell, Sue and Rac Cox and daughter-in-law, Ann Marie Tugwell, all of Knoxville, TN; grandchildren, Jason Cerone and fiance’, Lei Lotoa, Jeffrey Cerone, Justin Cerone and companion, Aracele Carranza, Reina Cerone, Jordan Cerone, Brad Smith, Robert Tugwell, III, Matthew Cox and wife Sarah, Andrew Cox, Julie Cox, Mary Beth Hann and husband, Brian, Katie Tugwell, William Tugwell and Laura Tugwell; great grandchildren, Jason Cerone, Taima Cerone, Jack Cerone and Ivory Cerone; sister, Mrs. Dorothy McCants of Pensacola, FL; sisters-in-law, Mrs. Cris Tugwell of Pensacola, FL, Mrs. Mildred Elliott and Mrs. Margaret Parker of Statesville, NC and many nieces and nephews, some from Pensacola, FL. Bob lives on through his family and friends, as all were touched by his gentleness, humility, sense of humor, patience and his generous spirit. Bob was young at heart and always enjoyed telling or hearing a good story. He was a true gentleman and will be greatly missed. He and Marion were a great team, raising four children.
