Rose Marie Butler Sanders

Sanders, Rose Marie Butler, age 83, born October 28, 1934, passed away peacefully at home with her family on August 20, 2018, in Knoxville, Tenn. She was part of Fulton High School’s first graduating class and attended both the University of Tennessee and Purdue University where she studied journalism. Rose spent her life caring for children, directing child care services in East Knoxville, as well as working as a volunteer social worker for CASA. She was known as “Miss Rose” to generations of children. Rose loved to travel and counted Switzerland as her favorite trip. She lived in New York, Georgia, Indiana and Florida before coming back to Knoxville, the place she called home. She was a bright light in her community, gifted with a vivacious spirit and forgiving heart. She will be missed greatly by her family and all of those whose lives she touched in her 83years. Rose was a faithful member of Eastminster Presbyterian Church where she sang in the choir, directed the children’s ministry and participated in community groups for several years. Preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Major John Edward Sanders, as well as her parents, Marie Carter and Henry Butler, stepfather, Charles Carter and brother Sam Carter. Survived by sons, John E. Sanders III, Mark Sanders (Debra) and Greg Sanders (Diane); daughter, Kathyrn (Mark); brother, Ed Carter (Judy); sister, Charlotte Dorsey (John Langley); grandchildren, Karli Sanders, Keri Sanders, Kamron Sanders (Ellie), Kelly Hastings, Stephen Hastings, Nathan Hastings and Frank Bealer (Jessica); four great-grandchildren; and many special lifelong friends. Receiving of Friends will be held on Friday, August 24, from 5-7pm at Eastminster Presbyterian Church (4904 Asheville Hwy, Knoxville, TN 37914) with service immediately following at 7:00 pm with Dr. Sean White officiating. Family and Friends will meet at 12:45 pm on Saturday, August 25, at Lynnhurst Cemetery for a 1:00 pm graveside service.
