Roy Allen Messerli

MESSERLI, ROY ALLEN - age 84 of Knoxville and formally of Fairfield, California, peacefully passed into heaven on Monday, December 3, 2012 surrounded by family. Roy was a member of First Baptist Church of Concord, and former member of Saint Mark's Lutheran Church Fairfield, California where he was active in numerous mission groups and projects. He was a World War II Marine Veteran. Roy is preceded in death by his wife Estelle and son David Messerli; he was also preceded in death by his parents, five sisters and three brothers. He is survived by: his children, Doug and Helen Messerli of Knoxville, Charles and Darlene Messerli of Greenville, NC; Beverly Blakeman; Vickie and Logan Williams of California; Bill Messerli of Oregon; and Lisa Edquist of San Diego; 14 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; brother Daniel and wife Miriam Messerli; Sister-in-law, Delores Messerli; and a host of nieces and nephews. Roy was born on a Minnesota farm tending animals and plowing fields. He was fond of telling people he was a sower and reaper. A house was not a home unless the ground produced edibles or colorful flowers. He had a natural talent for woodworking, mechanics and machinery which was honed in the Marines. After retiring from inspecting nuclear submarines, he started his Home Repair business. He was known as the go-to guy for church repair and food pantry restocking. Roy started his day with a reading of the Bible and Billy Graham's "My Answer" from the local paper. A favorite verse of his to discuss was Romans 10:9, "because, if you confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved". He prayed daily for his children, friends and country. Roy felt blessed to be rejoined in marriage with Estelle and found solace in the love of all his children. Roy's legacy for his children includes a desire to share the Good News of Salvation through Jesus Christ our Savior. Visitation for family and friends will be at 10:00 with Funeral service at 11:00 am Saturday, December 8th at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel, with the reverend Colt Vaughn officiating. Family and friends will meet at Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery on Lyons View Pike, at 9:30 am Friday, December 14, for an interment service with Military Honors presented by the Tennessee National Guard.
