Ruth L. DeFriese

DeFriese, Ruth Liggett, 103 , of Knoxville passed away March 16, 2015. She was member of Church Street United Methodist Church for over 85 years where she and her husband help organize the Christian Home Sunday School class. Her husband, Frank M. DeFriese, preceded her in death in 2009. Ruth was the first home demonstration agent in Washington County, a dietitian at the University of Tennessee Strong Hall cafeteria, and a Home Economics teacher at Young High School. She was a charter member of the Chapman Highway Garden Club, a member of the University of Tennessee Faculty Women, University of Tennessee Extension Wives', a former first Lady of Knoxville and a lifetime member of the Southern Highland HandiCraft Guild. Ruth and Frank enjoyed attending the University of Tennessee football and basketball games for over 60 years. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Eugenia and James W. Bond, III of Morristown, granddaughter and husband, Mary Ellen and Bennett Cox of Knoxville, grandson James W. Bond, IV of Knoxville, great-grand children James Bennett Cox, Mary Elizabeth Cox, Ashley Jameson Bond, and Adrian Bond, several nieces and nephews, and their families. Extended family members are Mrs. Sue Cox, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Monday and family, Mr. Jim Monday, Mr. Bob Monday and family, Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Anderson and Beckett, Ms. Susan Dominick, Rev. and Mrs. William Fowler, Rev. and Mrs. Cabel Trent, Mr., and Mrs. Herman Sain, and Mrs. Nancy Horton. Her service will be at Church Street United Methodist Church Friday, March 20, 2015 at 1:30 pm. The family will receive friends in the Church Chapel Thursday March 19th from 5:00 pm to 7:00pm and following the service.
