Sandra Smith Chesney

Chesney, Sandra Smith – age 76, of Knoxville, passed away after a long illness, Tuesday December 9, 2014. Born in Red Bay, Alabama on April 22, 1938 to Everett Andrew Smith and Julia Rowe Smith, Sandra spent her teen years with her family in Martin, Tennessee. She attended Emory University and was graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1960. After college she worked for a time as a social worker and later as a medical librarian at Ft. Sanders Hospital School of Nursing. Sandra was deeply committed to her friends and the fellowship she found at First Christian Church of Knoxville where she also sang in the choir. She compassionately served the homeless patrons of The Volunteer Ministry Center and her warmth and kind-hearted nature endeared her to all who knew her. Preceded in death by her parents, Sandra is survived by three daughters, Andrea Chesney Hill (Jess) of Los Angeles, Meredith Anne Chesney (Paul Sosnowski) of Brooklyn, and Frances Chesney Brandt (Matthias) of Knoxville. She adored her five grandchildren: Julia Brandt, Josiah Brandt, Nathaniel Brandt, Evangeline Brandt, and William Hill. Sandra is survived by her brothers Everett Andrew “Sonny” Smith, III of South Padre Island TX, William E. “Wes” Smith, of Panama City Beach, FL, James Fisher (Stayce) of Martin, TN and her sister Lucy Smith Milton (William) of Brentwood, TN, along with her nieces Julianne Milton, Alicia Milton Helm, Lisa Quinn, Stephanie Raby and nephews Edward Milton, Evan Smith, Bryant Fisher and Andrew Fisher. The family would like to express gratitude for the tireless patient care teams of Kindred Transitional Care of Maryville, and the Williamsburg Villas Assisted Living facility in Knoxville. Family will receive friends at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 14th, at the Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel, 6200 Kingston Pike, Knoxville.
