Sara Sue Calhoun

Sara Sue Calhoun, age 91, of Knoxville TN, passed from this life on Monday, November 28, 2016 at Shannondale Assisted Living Residence. Sue was born in Newport, TN and graduated from Newport High School, and from Tennessee Wesleyan College where she met the love of her life, John. Sue and John were residents of the West Hills community for over 60 years. Sue was active in the community in many ways serving as a charter member of the Gateway Garden Club, and also was a life member of the Tennessee Federation of Garden Clubs. She was a member of Bearden United Methodist Church, and was also a charter member of The Sunday School Hour and the Lord's Chapel Church. In addition to her beloved husband of 65 years, John Martin Calhoun, Sue is preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Sallie Robeson of Athens, TN; and special sisters-in-law, Jewell C. Wright of Morristown, TN, and Lola C. Scott of Athens, TN. She is survived by her loving daughters and sons-in-law, Sara Calhoun (Ben) Simpson of Morristown, TN, and Ellen Calhoun (Robby) Lawson of Knoxville, TN; grandchildren and spouses, Ben (Mollie) Simpson, III, of Nashville, TN, and Mark (Nichole) Simpson, Keith Lawson and Alex (Lauren) Lawson, all of Knoxville, TN; sister, Alice Robeson Cooke of Athens, TN; special nieces and nephews, James (Sissy) Miller; and daughters Jamea Harper, Lolly Miller and Miriam (Jeff) Kohl, Ann Davis and daughter, Whitney Malone, Sarah Scott (Bill), Mary Cooke and sons Will (Melissa) Lepchitz and daughters, and Drew (Lauren) Lepchitz; and special cousin, Dolly Harville and family. The family wishes to express sincere appreciation to the Staff and Friends of Shannondale Assisted Living for their love, care, compassion and concern for Sue. "May Hosts of Angels Sing You to Sleep." Funeral service will be held 6:00 p.m., Thursday, December 1, 2016 Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel with Chaplain Renee Willingham officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:30-6:00 p.m., preceding the service. The entombment service is private. A celebration of Sue's life will also be held 2:30 p.m., Monday, December 5, Shannondale Assisted Living Chapel.
