Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth "Betsy" Moffett Goodson

Goodson, Sarah Elizabeth “Betsy” Moffett, age 94 of Knoxville, passed away peacefully in the early hours of Wednesday, December 30, 2015. Mrs. Goodson was a graduate of Lexington High School and attended Salem College, Winston-Salem, NC. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Floyd Peck Goodson, Jr. from 1941 to 1964 until his death in a business trip plane crash. The Goodson’s owned and operated the JFG Coffee Company. Betsy was the founder and Chairman of the Board of Goodson Brothers Coffee Company in 1981. She started the company for her two sons, Moffett and Jeff Goodson. Betsy was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Vestal Moffett and Maie Thompson Moffett. Her sons, Joseph Moffett Goodson and James Franklin Goodson. Her sister, Mary Louise Moffett Leasnord, Lexington, NC. She is survived by her grandchildren, Floyd P. Goodson and wife, Tracy; Ross Goodson, Stephen Goodson, Elizabeth Goodson and Aelise Goodson Reece and husband, Stephen; great-grandchildren, Warren, Goodson, and Bennett Reece. Mrs. Goodson had a special interest in floral arranging and gardening and was a member of the Garden study Club since 1958. The Knoxville Garden Club an affiliate of the Garden Club of America. A GCA approved Judge in floral arranging. Betsy served as a GCA Flower Show Committee Representative; Judging Committee Representative and Vice-Chairman of the National GCA Flowers Show Committee. She received the GCA Certificate of Appreciation Award. She receive the Barbara Spalding Cramer Award for Achievement in Flower Arrangement and Education. The Martha Newton Law Award for thoughtful and unbiased judging. The Knoxville Garden Club Flowers Arrangement certificate for contributions and leadership. She also served on the GCA program committee as the flower show liaison. Mrs. Goodson exhibited and judged nationally and received numerous awards. A former member of the Knoxville Junior League, Betsy belonged to the Nine O’clock Cotillion. She served on the St. John’s Episcopal Altar Guild and the Flower Festival Committee. She was a member of a Bridge Club her entire life. She loved her family, friends and flowers. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. A celebration of Betsy’s life will be held 11:00 AM Monday at Saint John’s Episcopal Cathedral with The Very Reverend John C. Ross, Dean and The Reverend Cannon Thomas J. Rasnick.
