Valda Davis Anderson

Valda Davis Anderson, 95, passed away on Wednesday, December 21, 2016, after a long and eventful life. She was a woman of fierce determination and spirit who had a constant desire to engage the world around her. She was born in Knox County, the eldest of three children, and was the first in her family to graduate from high school at Central High School in Knoxville. She then continued her education and received her B.S. in Education from the University of Tennessee as well as a Masters Degree in Educational Administration and Supervision. She worked in the Knoxville City Schools as a teacher and principal for nearly 40 years. Additionally, Mrs. Anderson was dedicated to a number of volunteer organizations and interest groups throughout her life, including volunteering in the Baptist Hospital and St. Mary’s Hospital Auxiliary for over 25 years. She was a lifetime member of the DAR, Simon Harris Chapter, as well as the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a charter and 50 year member of the Green Thumb Garden Club and served as President of the Knox County Council of Garden Clubs for a term. She was a long time active member of Central Baptist Church of Fountain City. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 58 years, Richard C. Anderson and her parents, Herbert H. Davis and Lida Ferguson Davis. She is survived by her children Janette Anderson Wyatt and David Anderson and their spouses, Jimmy Wyatt and Ivy Anderson as well as grandchildren Stephanie Wyatt and spouse Adam Brett, Whitney Anderson, Emily Wyatt Humphries and spouse Andrew Humphries, and Clay Anderson, and one great-grandchild, Nora Beth Humphries. Services will be presided over by Rev. Ron Mouser and Rev. Dr. Stephanie Wyatt at Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, December 22, 2016. Receiving of friends will take place from 5:30-7:00p.m. immediately preceding the service. Graveside services will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 23, 2016, at Lynnhurst Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Richard C. Anderson Scholarship Fund via Central Baptist Church of Fountain City.
