Vivian Captain

Vivian Captain (nee Paraskevi Brinias), age 89, of Knoxville, TN, entered eternal rest on Saturday, January 25, 2025, after a short illness. She was born in Kessari, Greece, a village in the Peloponnese region, on January 7, 1936. Eventually she immigrated to Montreal, Canada, in 1954, and there she would meet and marry her loving husband of 63 years, George Captain. Subsequently, she moved with her husband and son to Knoxville, TN, in 1966, where her husband was a restaurateur at The Roman Room of Sam & Andy's Tennessean for over 30 years. Vivian would be a loving housewife and mother taking care of her son, Anthony, and her husband as well as the household. She was an ardent gardener and enjoyed craftwork in her spare time. After the retirement of her husband, they continued to be loving parents and supportive of their son in all his endeavors. They remained in Knoxville and active members at St. George Greek Orthodox Church. Vivian was a very compassionate, caring, giving, loving, trusting, sincere, honest, and respectful woman who was devout and pious in her beliefs in God and family. She will be deeply and strongly missed by her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, George, her father and mother, Demetrios Brinias and Anasthasia Brinias in Greece, as well as brothers, Frank Brinias from California and Vlassios Brinias from Greece. She is survived by her loving son, Dr. Anthony George Captain of Chattanooga; grandchildren, Chrisitan George and Loren Alyssa Captain, of Chattanooga; brother and sister-in-law, Costas and Voula Brinias, from Knoxville; brother-in-law, John A. Captain, of Knoxville; sister-in-laws, Eleni Krithis (Andreas) and Tasia Tourlotos (Triantafillos), both from Melbourne, Australia; beloved niece, Cathy Johnson (Bryan) and nephew, Jimmy Brinias (Tammy), both from Knoxville, and niece, Maria Davila (Robert), from Knoxville. And, additionally, godchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Family will receive family and friends on Saturday, February 8, 2025, from 9:30 am to 11:00 am at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 4070 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN 37919, with the Trisagion service immediately following. The service will be officiated by Rev. Fr. Dionysios Lampropoulos and Rev. Fr. Anthony Stratis, as well as Deacon Mark Smith. Family and friends will then proceed to Lynnhurst Cemetery in Fountain City, following the Trisagion service, for interment at 1:00 pm. In addition to flowers, donations can be made to the St. George Greek Orthodox Church Memorial Fund.
