William Eugene McClamroch

McClamroch, William Eugene (Gene), Jr. – age 78, of Knoxville, born September 1, 1932, passed away Saturday, August 27, 2011, at Ft. Sanders Regional Medical Center after a brief final illness. Son of the late William Eugene McClamroch, Jr. and Elizabeth McDonald McClamroch, Gene was preceded in death by his sisters Rose McClamroch Benedict and Carolyn McClamroch Staley, and his loving wife Ann Eleanor Emery McClamroch. He is survived by a host of family and dear friends including his son - William Eugene (Rocky) and wife Robin Duggins their children - Megan, Will, John, and Matthew - son Michael Thomas and wife Kim Wood and their son Michael ---daughter Elise Emery Schriver and husband Tom Eyssen and their children - Emery, Rob and Ann. Long-time special friend and companion Beverly Hogin and her children Patrick Hogin, Christopher Hogin and Allison Hogin Cruze, husband Jason and their children Hogin and Bennett. Gene was born, raised and lived in Knoxville for all his life. He was a well known business owner and civic volunteer. He served as Vice President of McClamroch Company, a family insurance and real estate firm for 50 years. As a developer Gene was responsible for Lyons Bend, Bluff Point, Shea Fields, Highland Point and Woodland Springs. Gene attended Sequoyah School, The McCallie School and was a 1951 graduate of Knoxville High School. Gene attended the University of Tennessee where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. Gene served his country as a lieutenant paratrooper in the 820d Airborne in Fort Chaffee Arkansas. Where he was an award winning marksman and football player. Gene was a member of the Men's Cotillion, Sequoyah Presbyterian Church, a former member of Sertoma and Cherokee Country Club. Gene enjoyed the outdoors all his life. As a teen at Camp Pellissippi, Gene served as counselor and Eagle Scout. As a young man, Gene lived and worked in Alaska, building the Trans-Alaska railroad .. Committed to his boys, Gene served as an Indian guide and Cub Scout leader. For many years, Gene coached baseball in the Sequoyah Little League. He was a golfer and avid gardener, always sharing his garden's bounty with friends. Gene spent many, many, many, happy summers at Pawley's Island, SC, where he fished, and entertained his family and friends - especially with a big breakfast and reveled in the beauty of Pawley's Island. The interment will be held at 2:30 pm on Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at Highland Memorial Cemetery. The memorial service will take place on Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at 4:00 pm at Sequoyah Hills Presbyterian Church with Dr. L. Holton Siegling, Dr. Michael Stanfield, and Rev. Mark Lampley officiating. Immediately following the service, the family will receive friends at Cherokee Country club on Lyons View.
