Betty Lewis

Betty Lewis died at her home Friday, May 21, 2021. She was the daughter of W. George and Ruby Fugate Lewis. She was born on the family farm on January 15, 1932, and spent her entire life there. Betty graduated as Valediction of Carter High School in 1950, then went to her beloved University of Tennessee, where she graduated in 1954 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. Betty retired from The University of Tennessee Treasurer’s office as an accountant where she worked over 30 years. Betty was a lifelong member of Bethel United Methodist Church, Kodak TN. Outside of her work, Betty traveled the world. After her retirement, Betty worked tirelessly on her embroidery. She was an active member of no less than three chapters of the Embroidery Guild of America. In her spare time, Betty loved the Lady Voles Basketball team, followed the ups and downs on the football program. She was an avid Atlanta Braves fan that would stay up all hours of the night to watch a game. She is survived by her sister, Sally L. Newkirk; and her nephews, Brian (Margie) Newkirk and Timothy Newkirk; her niece Sarah (Glenn) Ireland, grandnieces Anna Pierce (Thomas) Riley and Margaret Ireland. A graveside service will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery, June 5, 2021 at 10:00 a.m.
