Brenda Baird Goslee
September 26, 1940 - December 16, 2020
Brenda Baird Goslee, respected and well loved music teacher and church organist, died early Wednesday morning of complications from an aggressive cancer. She was eighty. Brenda was born in Buena Vista, VA and, as a child, moved to Bristol and then to Kingsport. She earned her Bachelor in Organ from Emory and Henry College. In 1967 she and her family moved to Knoxville, where she built a large piano teaching studio. In 1989 she received her Master in Organ Performance from UTK under John Brock. During the 1990s she taught classes and organ at Roane State Community College in Oak Ridge. She belonged to and was an officer in the Tuesday Morning Music Club, the Music Study Club, and the American Guild of Organists. During her entire fifty-three years in Knoxville she served as church organist for several local congregations, most recently with the First Church of Christ Scientist. She is warmly remembered by the church members she served and the students she taught. She is survived by her husband David Goslee; her sister Bette Roop of Henderson, NC; her son John Watson Helvey of Knoxville; her daughter and granddaughter, Elizabeth Helvey and Rosemary Helvey-Byers, both of Boulder, CO. There will be a private memorial service for members of the immediate family. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the environmental charity of your choice. Arrangements by Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel. Online condolences may be made at www.rosemortuary.com
