David Ownby

David Ownby of Powell-age 59, passed away on Thursday, August 3, 2017, at his home. David grew up in Cumberland Estates where he was a member of Cumberland Baptist Church. He loved all of his friends he grew up with and knew he was blessed to be a part of the "Cumberland Estates Gang". He graduated from Powell High School and went on to graduate from Carson Newman College. He married his loving wife of 31 years, Priscilla Matthews, in 1986 and they eventually moved back to Powell after starting their family. They were long time members of First Baptist Church of Powell, where David served on numerous mission trips. He was happiest when he was serving, whether he was singing with the youth choir at Cumberland or building a church in Brazil with First Baptist of Powell. David and Priscilla were blessed with three beautiful daughters, Kacie, Alissa, and Lauren. David was so grateful God had blessed his girls with three fine young men to share their lives with. Kacie's husband Dustin Lane, Alissa's husband David King, and Lauren's best friend Kenny Walker, Jr. He was so fortunate to be able to witness the birth of his first grandchild, Remington Barrett King in April, who provided David with so much joy at such a difficult time in his life. David was surrounded by the love and support of his family and friends throughout his recent struggles with his health and eventual passing, and he was eternally grateful for all the many blessings God provided. He was preceded in death by father, Don W. Ownby and infant sister, Robin Lea Ownby. He is also survived by his mother, Patty Ferguson Ownby, and little brother, Roger; and also several aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral service will be 7 pm Sunday at ROSE MORTUARY BROADWAY CHAPEL with Reverend Kent Williams officiating. The family and friends will meet at Highland Memorial Cemetery at 10:45 am Monday for an 11 am internment service. The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Sunday at ROSE MORTUARY BROADWAY CHAPEL.
