Dorothy (Dottie) Garland West

August 25, 1929 - January 25, 2022

Dorothy (Dottie) Garland West went home to heaven on January 25, 2022. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Dottie was born on August 25, 1929, in Detroit, Michigan, but lived most of her life in Knoxville, Tennessee with the love of her life, her husband of 61 years, Jack West. Jack and Dottie were charter members of West Hills Baptist Church where they faithfully served their Lord in many capacities. Dottie was a loving mother who later became the owner of Watson & West Realty before retiring to enjoy her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dottie was preceded in death by her mother Mary Elizabeth Thatch, her husband Jack William Neal West, and her grandson Lt. Brian Hamlett, USN. She is survived by her daughters Betty Hamlett Sundqvist (Ingmar) and Janice West Holmes (Tommy) of Knoxville. She is also survived by her grandsons Darrell Hamlett (Amanda) of Tomball, TX, David Holmes (Ginny) of Knoxville, and Will Holmes (Emma) of Franklin, TN. She also had seven great-grandchildren: Taylor and Kaylynn Hamlett, Brice and David Hamlett, Winnie and Eve Holmes, and Hayden Holmes whom she loved being able to see and visit. The family would like to thank the caretakers and staff of Morning Pointe/Lantern in Knoxville for their care of Dottie in her final years.
