Mrs. Irene Feezell Swicegood

Swicegood, Irene Feezell, age 94 of Knoxville passed away Thursday, March 3, 2016. She was fondly known as “Nannie”, a love name from her grandchildren. Irene as born in Meigs County, TN and later moved to Roane County, TN, where she and siblings grew up on a 250 acre farm on the banks of the Tennessee River. Irene took great pleasure in telling stories about growing up on a working farm during the great depression. She graduated from Roane County High School and later worked at Roane Hosiery Company in Harriman for many years. Irene was a 61 year member of Laurel Chapter #22 of the Order of Eastern Star in Harriman, TN. She was a longtime member of Caney Ford Baptist Church, Midtown, TN until she and her late husband moved from Kingston, TN to Knoxville, where they became members of Parkway Baptist Church and the Seniors Sunday School Class. Irene was an avid reader, loved to garden, go to garage sales and watch UT and professional football and basketball. Irene had a loving spirit and a heart of gold. She was always nurturing and caring for her family and friends. She loved her dogs and walked them around the neighborhood every day. Irene will be remembered as a loyal friend, a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. Irene will be missed by all who knew and loved her. The family would like to express their deep appreciation to her many doctors and their staffs for the wonderful care she received. Irene was preceded in death by her beloved husband of forty years, Robert Newton Swicegood; parents, Ota Theordore and Effie Razor Feezell and her seven siblings.She is survived by her only child, Joyce Swicegood Jenkins and son-in-law, Reed Jenkins; grandsons, Robert E. (Rob) Jenkins, (Martha Bush), Richard A. (Ric) Jenkins (Dee Moore) and Charles (Chuck) and his wife, Heather Jenkins; great-granddaughters, Mallory Jenkins Franks and husband, Tully Franks, Lauren and Katelyn Jenkins; great-great-granddaughter, Chloe Jenkins; brother-in-law, Don Patterson of Kingston, TN; best friend of more than 50 years, Edna Kerley and several special nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM Sunday at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel with funeral service to follow, Reverend Larry Trotter officiating. Family and friends will meet 1:00 PM Monday at Roane Memorial Gardens for interment service with Reverend Jeffrey Parrot officiating. Online condolences may be sent to www.rosemortuary.com.
