Kenneth L. Chesney Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Dandridge – Kenneth L. Chesney, age 95 of Dandridge, Tennessee, went home to be with the Lord on July 12th, 2022. Kenneth was born on December 21st 1926 in Luttrell, Tennessee. He was raised in the Clear Branch Baptist Church and later was a member of the First Congregational Church and Middlebrook Pike Methodist in Knoxville and more recently First United Methodist Church in Dandridge. Kenneth was an Air Force veteran serving in World War II when he met his wife, Peggy at Langley Air Force Base in Va. They were happily married for seventy years. After returning to Tennessee, Kenneth was one of the first Gulf Oil owner/operators in Knoxville while Gulf was expanding their market. He owned several different Gulf stations, sometimes partnering with his brothers James and Billy, becoming well known by Gulf as one of their finest dealers. He opened and reopened several stations around town, including two Texaco stations, over a twenty-five-year period, always improving performance, customer service and profitability. His longest serving station was located on Cumberland Avenue serving the UT and Fort Sanders area. After retiring from the service station business and over the next fifteen years, he owned four other local businesses the last being the Fun Town Arcade that was enjoyed by the community and his family, all successful, before retiring with his wife to the lake in Dandridge. His tremendous work ethic, financial management and generous spirit was passed onto his children at an early age. He was a protector and provider who loved his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Kenneth was preceded in death by his wife Peggy, parents Edgar and Ella Chesney, his brothers Edgar Gordon, Edward, Herman and sisters Helen Davis and Imogene Seltzer and daughter Mary Angela. Kenneth is survived by daughters Leigh Chesney Barnes (Curtis), Kay Chesney Alexander (Ralph) and son Michael (Karen); grandchildren Craig Alexander (Joni), Cory Alexander, Emily Chesney Justus, Leanne Chesney(Richard Parks) and great-grandchildren Deacon Justus, Ella Parks and Jacob Parks; brothers James and Billy, and sisters Marlene and Ruth, and many nieces and nephews. A private family graveside service will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, July 25th at the East Tennessee Veteran’s Cemetery, Gov. John Sevier Hwy. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Dandridge First United Methodist Church Congregational Care Ministry. PO Box 8, Dandridge, Tennessee, 37725. Their loving and truly excellent care for Kenneth each week was deeply appreciated, as they were the hands and feet of Christ.
