Lanham Cecil Dingess Jr. Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Lanham Cecil Dingess Jr., age 70, passed away on Saturday, July 9th, 2022. Lan was born in Johnson City, TN on February 9th, 1952 and graduated from Science Hill High School in 1970. He attended East Tennessee State University where he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity and graduated from the University of Tennessee with a dual degree in History and Sociology. After college Lan stayed in Knoxville where he worked in the insurance business the majority of his career. Lan had a zest for life and never met a stranger. He was a passionate UT Vol fan and enjoyed keeping up with all Tennessee sports. Lan loved visiting the beach with his family and traveled to Destin multiple times a year. He loved a good dinner reservation and a nice glass of wine. Lan was also a certified scuba diver and loved going on diving excursions. Lan was a proud Pike and made lifelong friends in the organization. His two sons also followed in his Pike footsteps. Lan stayed active in both his high school and fraternity alumni and looked forward to organizing and attending reunions. Lan is preceded in death by his father Lanham, mother Margaret, and sister Donna. Lan is survived by his loving wife, Jennie Harrison Dingess; his sons Matthew and Patrick; daughter-in-law Katy (Patrick); and new grand baby Margot whom he absolutely adored. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, and brother in laws. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 12th from 4-6 at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel. There will be a Mass in Lan’s honor on Wednesday, July 13th at 10 am at Sacred Heart Cathedral. The family will then travel to Johnson City to bury Lan next to his mother. There will be a gathering for Johnson City friends after the burial on Wednesday, July 13th from 3:15-6 at The Carnegie Hotel Library and Bar.
