Leon F. Collins
December 9, 2020
Leon F. Collins, age 87, passed away on Wednesday, December 9, 2020. Born in Knoxville to James Harvey Collins Sr. and Addie (Maloney) Collins, he was drafted into the United States Army during the Korean War, serving first as a military police officer before later joining the Signal Corps. Leon had a passion for trains and always looked forward to embarking on his next sight-seeing train adventure. He developed a strong interest in electricity and communications and did extensive reading on the subject. He loved nature and could impressively identify most birds by their call. Most of all, Leon will be remembered as a kind soul, always willing to lend a hand whether it be to help care for someone that was ill or infirm or help with home repairs. Leon was the person that left everyone feeling better after having spent time with him. His warm smile and playful attitude will be deeply missed. Leon will be lovingly remembered by his niece and nephew, Peggy (Charles) Sarinyamas and William, (Laura) Collins Jr., grandniece, Audrey Sarinyamas, and sister-in-law, Vonda Collins. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Addie and James H. Collins Sr., and his brothers, James H. Collins Jr. and William H. Collins Sr. Graveside services will be Monday, December 14th at 2pm at Greenwood Cemetery, 3500 Old Tazewell Pike with Pastor Jana Spicka officiating.
