Lula Browder (Judy) Weigel

Lula Maude (Judy) Browder Weigel, age 94, died at home on Monday, June 21, 2010. She was the widow of William Walter Weigel, Jr. who died in 1974. Judy was born on February 27, 1916 at the Wheat, TN ancestral home of her parents, William Hamilton Browder and Margaret Mae Billingsley Browder. She is survived by her son, William (Bill) Browder Weigel and wife, Ann Rector Weigel of Knoxville; granddaughter Laurie Weigel Keville and husband, John of Charlottesville, VA; grandson, William Kurt Weigel and wife, Carolyn Wagner Weigel of Knoxville; granddaughter Dr. Margaret (Meg) Weigel Kwasigroch and her husband Keith, of Atlanta, GA; seven great grandchildren; Connor, Jack, and Caroline Keville of Charlottesville, VA; Karley and Abby Weigel of Knoxville, TN; William (Will) and Emma Kwasigroch of Atlanta, GA; one brother Rhea Roswell Browder of Harriman, TN; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Lynn and Kathleen Weigel of Knoxville, TN; and many nieces and nephews. Proceeded in death by her beloved husband, William Walter Weigel, Jr., parents William Hamilton and Margaret Mae Browder; niece Rebecca Kathleen Weigel; sisters Mary Byrd Browder Burnette and Margaret Browder Stegall Arnold; brothers, John Franklin Browder, William Hamilton Browder, Joseph Houston Browder, Edward Carmack Browder, and George Wade Browder. She was a loyal member of Powell Presbyterian Church. As a member of the Knoxville Friendship Force, she was given the opportunity to travel the world as a guest. In return she hosted in her home those friends she had made. She enjoyed gardening, antiquing, and entertaining. She loved going to parties and hosting them at her country home in Powell. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren, who lovingly called her Nonnie, were her greatest joy. Independent and adventuresome until her very last weeks, Nonnie traveled nearly every year to Virginia and Georgia, building unique and lasting bonds with her great-grandchildren. Distance, age and infirmity were only minor obstacles. When this ninety-some year old lady said she was coming to visit next year, you better clear your calendar. She set the bar for all she touched, on not just how to live long, but how to live exceptionally. The Weigel Family will be forever grateful to her caregivers; Linda McBee, Marlene Sedwick, Beverly Taylor, Betty Guffey, Frances Woodward and Cindy Fitzpatrick. Special thanks to Jim Manning and to Lena and Leonard Scarbrough, her traveling companions, who graciously made her out of town trips to Florida and visits to her grandchildren possible over the last four years. Very special thanks to Dr. Doug Leahy for all his years of compassionate and tender care. Pallbearers will be Kurt Weigel, John Keville, Keith Kwasigroch, Jim Manning, Jerry McWhorter and Monty Roberts.
