    Martha Harrington Whitehead

    December 8, 1933 - March 5, 2022

Martha Harrington Whitehead, age 88, of Knoxville, went to be with the Lord on March 5, 2022. A 1952 Fulton High School graduate, she attended The University of Tennessee where she met her future husband, Ken. They married in June 1955, and Martha went on to become an incredible homemaker. She loved her husband, family, friends, and church. With her wonderful sense of humor, she was a mother figure to all, creating a welcoming and beautiful home. Her many talents included cooking, baking, sewing, and writing poetry for special occasions. One of her favorite hobbies was being a master garage sale shopper, as she loved finding bargains for her family. She loved puzzles and playing games with her grandchildren, and no one wanted to sit beside her when playing UNO as she was a fierce competitor. Since 1960, she attended Central Baptist Church of Bearden, sang in the choir, was the President of The Encouragers Sunday School Class for many years, and previously worked in the church’s Mothers’ Day Out program. Martha is preceded in death by parents, Frank Sr. and Genevieve Harrington, and brothers Frank Jr. and Jim Harrington. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Ken Whitehead; Children: Donna Potts (Jack), Steve Whitehead, David Whitehead, Michael Whitehead (Crystal), and Nancy Brown (Greg); 10 grandchildren: Heather, Maresa, Bryan, Neil, Hannah, Joel, Seth, Luke, Ethan and Ellie; 4 great-grandchildren: Olivia, Caden, Allison, and Evelyn. Sister-in-law: Bettye Harrington. The Family will receive friends at Central Baptist Church of Bearden from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. Saturday, March 19, 2022, followed by the Funeral Service at 3:00 p.m. Interment is 1:00 p.m. Sunday, March 20, 2022 at Greenwood Cemetery, Knoxville. Reverend Mark Moreland officiating. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the charity of your choice. The service will be livestreamed at https://www.facebook.com/RoseMannHeritage. Arrangements by Rose Funeral and Cremation – Mann. Online condolences may be made at rosefuneraltn.com.
