Martha Jenkins Williamson, 93, went to be with the Lord on February 8, 2022. Originally from Summerville, SC she moved to Knoxville not knowing anyone after accepting a job as a librarian at Lawson McGee Library after graduating from Columbia College with a degree in English and a Masters degree in library science from University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Martha quickly made many friends and was introduced to her (late ) husband Ben Wilson Williamson . She was a loving and faithful wife, an amazing mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend to many. She was admired by all for her sense of humor, southern charm, and gracious hospitality. Her Love for the Lord and strong Christian faith were a testimony to all who knew her. She had a such a servant’s heart and always the first to arrive with a meal or her favorite coffee cake when someone was in time of need. Martha was an avid reader, amazing homemaker and enjoyed gardening, cooking, and entertaining ; especially opening her home to all and hosting numerous functions in her well-loved lake home. Traveling was also a favorite hobby where she and her late husband took many lovely trips, but her favorite trips were traveling with her son to the Bahamas to deep sea fish and to Charleston, SC with her daughter to visit relatives and sights from the past. Martha was actively involved in Church of Ascension and enjoyed numerous bible studies in the community as well as community groups such as Nine O’clock Cotillion , Cherokee Hills Garden Club, Sewing Club, and her beloved bridge group. She also enjoyed volunteering for many organizations such as Mobile Meals, Fish , Habitat for Humanity and was a Stephens minister.( where she said she also loved ministering to the “elderly”) . Preceded in death by parents, William Lee Jenkins and Marie Vincent Jenkins , and husband Ben Wilson Williamson, JR. Survived by children: son, Ben Wilson Williamson III, ( Marsha ), daughter, Martha W “Sis “ Myhre ( Wilson) and grandchildren: Katie Williamson Stewart ( Jake ) Brett Williamson ( Emily) , Elizabeth Myhre, Ben Myhre and John Myhre and six great children, relatives, and friends. A celebration of life will be held at the Church of the Ascension at 10:00 Friday , February 11 and receiving friends immediately following. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Young Life Knoxville, PO Box 647, Knoxville TN 37901; the Church of the Ascension, 800 S. Northshore Dr, Knoxville, TN 37919; or a charity of your choice.
