Mary Louise Hammond Butler Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Mary Louise Hammond Butler, age 68 of Knoxville, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, November 4th, 2021. Mary Lou was a 1972 graduate of Bearden High School and was voted “Most Wittiest” by her classmates. She lived her life with an incredible sense of humor and never missed an opportunity to shock her friends and family. Truly one of a kind, her admiration of eclectic art, love of obscure music, and taste for good bourbon only scratch the surface of her many endearing traits. Mary Lou grew up at Central Baptist Bearden, but has been a member of First Presbyterian Church Knoxville for the last twelve years. More than anything else she loved her husband and family, and she beamed with pride when talking about her grandchildren. Mary Lou thrived in the kitchen where she was known for making delicious home cooked meals from scratch almost every day as well as amazing sweets; her holiday meals will be sorely missed. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Frances Hammond. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Bill Butler; daughter, Sarah Buchanan and husband Bret; son, Ben Butler and wife Amy; grandchildren, Katherine and Sam Buchanan; siblings and their spouses, Bob & Brenda Hammond, Curt & Sharon Hammond, Laura & Kent Turnbull and Joe Hammond; many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Monday evening at 5:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends following the service.
