    Mona Beckner

    January 18, 1922 - April 8, 2022

Mona Beckner, 100 years old, of Knoxville, TN., died on Friday, April 8, 2022 after a brief illness. She was a member of City View Baptist Church. She was born in Hawkins County in 1922, grew up in the Rogersville vicinity, and attended Rogersville High School. After getting married to J.H. Beckner, she moved to Knoxville because of his work on the railroad. In her early life she worked at Oak Ridge as a Calutron Girl at Y-12. Later she worked in a department store “The Knox” here in Knoxville until her son was born. Many happy years were spent as a member of McCalla Avenue Baptist Church. Then the church moved to another location – Chilhowee Hills. Had many friends but they are about all gone now. She liked working in her garden and flowers. In her senior years, 80 and up, her greatest delight was writing poetry. She gave many of her poems away. Through the next years she wrote over 200 poems. She belonged to the Ladies Railroad Auxiliary Lodge for over 50 years. Mona was preceded in death by husband of 59 years, J.H. Beckner, her one year old son, Ronnie (Joe Ronald) Beckner, and her parents, Joe Gordon and Mildred Marion Gordon. She is survived by a loving son, Michael Beckner, brother, Jimmie Gordon, three devoted nieces; Belinda G. Ferrell and husband Marion, Sabrina G. Hughes, all of Knoxville, and Sonya Gordon of Nashville, and also a great niece Trina Hughes. Many cousins and friends have already left this world, especially first cousins. The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 13, 2022 from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm at Rose Funeral & Cremation Broadway, immediately followed by a 7:00 pm funeral service officiated by Rev. Lucky Steele. Family and friends will meet Thursday, April 14, 2022 at 12:45 pm at Sherwood Memorial Garden for a 1:00 pm interment service.
